Rubbish Swimming

This is an idea that we are unashamedly stealing from Canoe England, but that is because we think it is a great idea.

So, Rubbish Swimming goes one step further than the country code, and the “leave no trace” ethos that many outdoor organisations have. Rubbish Swimming is about taking away rubbish that you find on your swim, and leaving the aquatic environment in better condition than it was when you arrived.

The place where the founders of Gone Swimming met, is a gorgeous lagoon in a slate quarry in North Wales. An isolated and tranquil spot… that is blighted by a huge amount of rubbish around the shore. One of the Gone Swimming team projects this spring is to get down there and clear out as much rubbish as we possibly can.

On our Gone Swimming swims, a dedicated drybag will be brought with us so that all swimmers can (if they choose – nobody is forced) to collect rubbish to leave the water and the shores cleaner than when we arrived.
