Loch Etive, Glencoe, Scotland

  • Loch-Etive

From the A82 take a narrow single track road. This willl take you alongside River Etive until you eventually reach a closed gate and in effect a dead end. Here there is a smallish car park. Then, opening out before you, is the silky dark waters of Loch Etive, surrounded by hills. This is a beautiful and breathtaking location. On the day we went, there were only a handful of people there, but the lake is so large that there is plenty of room for everyone. The water is clean, and in August 2016 fairly warm considering. I’ve swum at a few locations in Scotland and England, but this is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful I have to date. If you’re in the Glencoe area I would highly recommend this location. The drive from the A82 takes about half an hour.
