Excellent and accessible swimming spot in the South Tyne near Featherstone Castle. Sandy little beach with easy access into the river. Nice deep water in the middle of the river but equally good shallows for a paddle. Probably very popular with locals.
Park in various informal lay-bys along the south bank of the South Tyne and follow the footpath upstream along the river for a few hunderd metres. Described swimming spot is just upstream from the weir but there appear to be plenty others.
Please note, the South Tyne and be very flashy, so assess water condition carefully.
