Poet in the City, in partnership with the Outdoor Swimming Society, presents the poetry of wilderness, water and wild swimming. A unique poetry event which follows the Great River Swim, as part of the Totally Thames Festival.

The Great River Swim is a unique opportunity to enjoy a group swim in the river Thames. Swimmers will enter the water 10-15 minutes before high tide (at around 6.20pm) and be helped upstream along Chiswick Mall by the current. After the tide turns the swimmers will return round the Chiswick Eyot on the ebb tide. Wetsuits permitted. Swim likely to take 20-30 minutes and water temp will be about 16 deg C. A rare chance to enjoy a group swim in the tidal Thames with escort craft.

Exploring the rich relationship between poetry and wild swimming, we celebrate the magic and adventure of a leap into the unknown. Wild waters have inspired centuries of poets, and the power of the river’s voice is no less present today.

Join us on the banks of the Thames for a unique evening of poetry and discussion. Featuring the acclaimed poets Sean O’Brien and Jo Bell and poet and author of ‘Dip: Wild Swims from the Borderlands’, Andrew Fusek Peters. This event takes place directly after the Great River Swim, and we very much hope you will join us for both!
