River Avon St Nicholas Park Warwick

The River Avon runs between St Nicholas park and another park on the other bank. It’s not to busy, just canoes and rowing boats at the weekends if the weather is fine and some fishermen. Access is a scramble down the bank but nothing too tricky. The water here is probably quite deep and gets deeper as you go down stream; about 6ft in the middle at a guess. It looks clean though it is running through a town so expect some litter and maybe the odd submerged bike or trolley. On the whole though the banks have parks or woodland edging the river as it runs through both Leamington and then through Warwick and this seems to keep it clean and rural feeling along its length. This is not for toddlers but one for descent swimmers. I have seen a picture of the boys from Warwick School nearby all leaping into the water at the turn of the last century as part of their games lessons though I think they have their own pool now!
The lovely winter picture is by Paul Kerr.
