Learn more about the Book

Explore the wild and rural Italy that few ever find. Natural pools, lakes and magnificent waterfalls provide a place to escape the crowds and cool off from the summer heat.

Wild Swimming Italy visits the most spectacular locations, many close to Italy’s most famous sights, and provides a range of opportunities from family-friendly river beaches for picnicking, to deep gorges and pools for the adventurous, with recommendations for camp sites, food and boating.

From the emerald streams of the Dolomites, to the azure colours of the Trentino lakes. From idyllic Tuscan hills with thermal pools to basalt gorges and valleys immersed in fragrant scrub, Wild Swimming Italy is a comprehensive guide to Italy’s wildest and most beautiful natural areas.

Also available as an ebook and premium app for iOS and Android.

Michele Tameni is an experienced traveller and explorer of wild places. An accomplished photographer and writer, he was brought up on the shores of Lake Garda and has been exploring Italy’s swimming holes since he was a child.

  9. The gorge at Torrente Fer is stunning. There is free parking and a huge wooded rocky picnic/ bbq area which was almost deserted. We swam alone in a very deep dark blue pool fed by a high waterfall. A bit of a scramble through the rocks but worth it. The 5 mile lake at Osaglia has a lawn a short walk from it’s free car park and has two (good) cafes on it’s shores, so though not as wild as some, there were only a handful of people in August when we visited. The edge is silt/shale and water is deep blue green with little fish. Easy swim across the width as the lake is deep, long and narrow. Will post pictures when the site has a place for them. 12. We’ll be going to Italy in September and your book will certainly be our roadtrip-bible. I can’t wait for the release and will definitely send you the link to the blogpost when we’re back. Michele Tameni must have just made it – seems that she’s got the world’s best job. Let me know if you have an open position available. 🙂 (Seriously!)
