North, Yorkshire and
Northumberland coast- secret beaches, coves
and plunge pools
The famous Northumberland coast has some of the grandest, wildest
beaches in Britain, bordered by ancient castles and holy islands. To
the south the extensive dunes and skyscapes of Lincolnshire and Cumbria
contrast with the dramatic caves at Flamborough Head and the high
cliffs of the Yorkshire Moors. Here you will find secluded wykes,
goblin holes and stories of Count Dracula.
The dramatic
chalk cliffs of Flamborough Head are puckered
with caves and tunnels, including huge sea caverns you can explore on
foot.
Deep
in the woods beneath the old railway station you will
find waterfalls running down to Hayburn Wyke, a remote rocky bay clad
with
jungle-like foliage.
Boggle
Hole and Stoupe Beck Sands are quiet coves near Robin
Hood’s Bay with its quaint red fishing village built up the
hillside.
