2021 update: NATIONAL TRUST have written to say swimming is no longer allowed as this is a ‘very important conservation areas, designated as SSSI (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) and SAC (Special Areas of Conservation) and home to some very rare protected species’.
Large open moorland tarn set beneath a crag and one of the great forts of Hadrian’s Wall. Marshy, shallow shore in places but deeper in SE corner beneath Dove Crag.
