Ardèche

There is much to explore in this ruggedly beautiful region, from the great Pont d’Arc and the stunning gorges in the south, to the mysterious volcanic landscape and crater lakes of the Haut Ardèche.

Ardèche Swim Highlights

Pont d’Arc

A giant prehistoric arch bridges the river at this famous French landmark – busy but spectacular.

The Grand Gour

Peaceful river pools in the heart of the gorges with relaxed and basic bivouac camping.

Plage des Templiers

One of the last remaining naturist beaches and campsites in the gorges on a beautiful stretch of water.

Les Grottes

Laid-back campsite deep in the gorge – a lovely place to stay and swim.

Balazuc

The swimming is lovely in the gorges beneath this historic village. Continue upstream for riverside ‘camping à la ferme’, with pitches set in pretty glades.

Chandolas

Wonderful rock formations along this unassuming section of the Chassezac.

Thueyts, Pont du Diable

A hump-back bridge spans a small gorge with a beach and a jade-green pool below. There is an exciting via ferrata course on the canyon side above.

Gouffre de l’Enfer

The great abyss of hell. The daring can leap from the lip of the waterfall – we stayed here for three days but failed to pluck up the courage.

Jaujac, Lignon

A platform has been built in the trees above above for very high jumps into the water.
