Pickmere

Despite the “no swimming” sign this is a peaceful and pleasant spot for a picnic and swim. It is used regularly and officially has village green status.

  4. The local Parish Council have confirmed that swimming in the lake cannot be banned. Furthermore part of the lake is common ground. When entering the water take care because the developers of the adjoining “yuppy warren” eyesore demolished the large sandstone building that used be there, then dumped the sandstone blocks in the lake. The original “no swimming past here” notice warned that the lake suddenly deepened immediately behind the notice. The sudden drop was delineated by a rope with hi-vis floats.
