Cwm Pennant

A clear blue tarn in a hidden cleft, at the head of one of most remote and beautiful valleys in Snowdonia. Interesting old mine ruins and good hill-walking nearby. 20m x 100m lake.

  1. This is actually a very old reservoir, its very clean pure water, mostly about 3 metres in middle, little organic debris; easy access in and out of the water, and nice grassy bank. It is indeed very remote and secluded. The single track road to it is 4+ miles long, gates thru farm, there’s a car park then maybe 40 minutes walk up. So if there’s no cars there’s no other people. Make sure you follow the footpath from the car park into the field, it looks boggy but going the other way ( starting along the made up road) was a mistake – took much longer and was seriously boggy. The lake dimensions may seem unimpressive on paper, be assured it is a real gem, with dramatic panoramic scenery, definitely worth it.
