Located within a chain of glacial lakes,Lac Narlay is the deepest lake in the region at nearly 50m! It is however completely safe for swimming and has a sloping rock formation that has a campsite on one bank. I swim here whenever I’m in the area and regularly swim across the lake with ease. Despite the volume of melt water during the long winter, the summer water temperature can reach 23C on the surface making it a pleasant experience on a hot day.
There are several other lakes nearby which are all walkable or if cycling, there are paths that follow the lake edge. Lac Ilay is already listed here which is shallower and more popular with boat fisherman but is a really great lake to explore as it has more little inlets as well as an island that used to have a small monastery or hermitage on it. These lakes are a real gem and are incredibly clean whilst the surrounding alpine grassland is full of wild flowers before it’s cut for hay in summer.

Amazing lakes in this area, some even with beaches for more safe family swims. You can camp on Lac Narlay or rent a house in the nearby village of Le Frasnois quite reasonably.
