The Swim and Spectators
Weymouth Bay is an iconic piece of water with stunning views over the spectacular Jurassic Coast and an amazing Georgian Seafront. Swim The Bay is a point to point swim offering a choice of 1.2 miles (half the bay) or 2.4 miles (the full bay).
Spectators
This is probably the most perfect spectator friendly swim too as supporters can walk the whole length of the beach alongside the swim, stopping at cafes en route for leisurely food and drink.
The Start and Finish
The full swim will start at Bowleaze Coveway, with the onsite Cafe open from 0730 offering a selection of food and drinks. The half swim will start alongside the groyne opposite Lodmoor Country Park. Both distances will exit the water on the beach alongside the Pier and will finish on the beach in a mini stadium.
Getting to the Start
All swimmers will be picked up from the registration area on the beach (near Alexandra Gardens) and bussed to the start lines. We will bring your baggage back for you before you start your swim and make sure it is waiting for you after you finish. This is included in your entry ticket, but you can purchase additional 1 way tickets for spectators too.
Wetsuits or Skins?
We will have extensive water safety cover for this event but it is still a swim in the sea, which can be very unpredictable. Wetsuits will be compulsory for all swimmers. However, if you are an experienced open water sea swimmer and would like to swim without a wetsuit, please apply to [email protected] giving your recent experience and swimming history. Each case will be assessed independently on its own merits. Please note, without going through this process prior and receiving approval prior to the event, wetsuits are mandatory. All swimmers who do get approval will have to swim with a tow float.
Minimum age for this event is 18 years. For the full bay swim, there is an interim cut off at the half way point of 1hour and 10minutes.
