Lovely fairly private river swim near the historic Powick Bridge. Park at the small car-park off the big roundabout just south of the map location, Then take the path on the right-hand side along to the Old Road. There are signs to read about the history of the bridge (Civil War etc) and an old mill (now apartments) with an impressive chimney.

It’s too awkward to get in near the bridge where the A449 goes over (barbed wire fences etc) so we went over the old bridge and took the path along the field, dropping down a path onto a little beach. Quite steep, a few nettles and a bit muddy. (A lady walking her dogs told us to walk through three fields this way and get in further up the river where it’s easier to get in.)

The water wasn’t deep, but fast -flowing and fresh. Beware of rubbish/debris under the surface – it’s clear enough to see the bottom. Not for inexperienced swimmers.

(Sorry, I don’t know why the photos have come out looking squashed – it’s a website blip I think.)
