A fantastic stretch of grassy riverside incorporating the limestone cliffs and plunge pool of Loup Scar and the shallower, larger, grassy river pool just downstream.

another play spot, inflatable canoes and rubber rings down the rapids, a nice swim spot and a good jump. we just felt sorry for the old guy we saw there last time who came all the way from town on the bus just to go for a dip in the plunge pool like he has done all his life to be scared away from his local spot by teenagers jumping with no regard for themselves or others around. im sure hes thankful to Alec for his lift back though haha.

We visited Burnsall in late August for a swim, but never made it as far as Loup scar. we parked by the church an walked down Church lane turned left heading upstream toward Loup scar after a couple of hundred yards we came across a beautiful grassy bank just downstream from the end of the rocky section. We found this the perfect place to set up base and spend several hours enjoying a lovely swim. A great place if you have children with you

  4. Loup Scar is a perfect spot to take a swim and jump from the rocks on a hot summers day. It can get busy on hot days so best to arrive early.

The only detraction is the litter left by people that visit. There aren’t any bins on site and as usual people have no respect for their surrounding environment.

Had a lovely day here in early July 2013. We found this had a little bit of something for everyone. Down in the village itself there were thousands of people cooling off in the river wharfe by paddling. Further up towards the back of St Wilfrids church we found free parking and a short convenient walk down the church lane to the river itself where there were long calm stretches suitable for swimming. A little further up and we found Loup Scar itself and this had a nice high jump down to a plunge pool. My kids particularly liked this bit. The jump is not for the faint hearted.
