Lamas, River Bure

  • IMG_2129

A quiet, rural idyllic stretch of the Bure river, flowing past gardens, fields and a church. Deep and clear running. Banks can be rather wet and marshy.

  1. Hello. We did this today — couldn’t really work out where to get in but enjoyed a bracing (!) dip in a stretch of river we found near a rather magnificent house

  2. Wasn’t immediately obvious how to reach the spot indicated on the map via public footpath because nearby houses have put up ‘Private’ signs etc. which are rather offputting.
Instead, we parked at Bure Valley Railway car park in Buxton (not brilliantly signposted I have to admit) then took footpath toward Oxnead. Cross over the bridge, turn right along footpath (line of poplars by river bank). When the poplars finish, there’s a field where you can get into the water pretty easily. Not too deep, although quite a lot of weed – but really enjoyable
