   My family and I swam here on a lovely sunny August day. There were lots of kids playing further downstream in the shallower section but the 800m upstream swim us as described. Very nice for a decent swim. We saw some guys in wetsuits getting a good swim on, kids messing around and some boys jumping off that bridge… I wouldn’t recommend the jump though.

   I have a wedding in monmouth on sat 21st may. I was thinking of heading up to the area midweek to fo some sight seeing. Swimming is my life but I’ve never been cold water swimming and am desperate to try. I should purchase a wetsuit? Also do you still have evening swims? If so which day? If I cant make that is it a safe place to swim alone. Many thanks. Anna

   My friend and I swam here in early August 2015 and loved it! I agree that the bank is a bit tricky to scramble down and we warned our partners to be around in case we needed help getting back out again! They were happy to sit in the sun with a beer whilst they waited for us. We swam quite a distance up the river and then floated back with the current. You get such a different view from being in the water, so lovely and peaceful. It was our first proper river swimming experience. We’d been in the river pool by the pub at Crickhowell the previous day and had enjoyed that but this was so much better. We’d have done it again if we’d been in the area longer.
   The car park was well sign posted from the road as long as you knew the gerneral area you were heading for. We changed in the public toilets. All was clean and tidy.

   I’m in this area next Sunday & looking for a spot to do my first wild swim – good idea or not? Don’t have a wetsuit but very strong swimmer in the pool – too cold still or worth a go??

    Hi brian did you do the wye not tri this year ? I found the bike course harder this year are you still swimming in usk and if you are when do you stop I need to swim in my wet suit more I find it hard william lewis

    thank you brian but i 12 hours nights on friday but of on monday i am new to triathlon i am doing the wye not tri triathlon in september do know of any clubs where i can train with thank you william hope to see you monday.

    I have also swam there a lot recently and find it amazing and beautiful. not sure where the fenced off part is as we just go straight down into the river on a very open bank…..maybe try and come when a regular group is going to show the way…..

    Sorry you found it like that. Cant say I’ve ever found it to be ‘not very clean’. Swam there Monday evening, it was wonderful. Its a river so yes there is no ‘easy’ access but we manage regularly, straight down the steps & clamber down the bank.There were a number of other ‘locals’ taking dips Monday evening not just from our regular group.

    Visited here a few days ago after many years. Wasn’t impressed. Not very clean area. Asked a local about swimming as it didn’t look so great and was advised against it. The river isn’t particularly easy to access from the car park side. Fenced off and overgrown. You can walk left as you come out of the car park and go under the bridge along the path and there are more access points further up. Lot of litter in the river.

    I’m keen for a swim here, I have been paddling here a bit on my SUP. nice spot. Wetsuit needed still? I have a 4mm suit for surfing, but I guess that’s not ideal for river swimming
