Went this afternoon – the police had sealed off the road leading to the beach due to weight of traffic. It was chaos. Gave up and went elsewhere. Looked very nice, would go in the morning though.

  3. Statement from Waverley Borough Council – leasee and managers of the Great Pond

Please bear in mind that the rest of the pond, outside the designated and marked swimming areas is out of bounds to swimmers. The pond is leased to anglers and sailors. Swimmers are at risk from hooks, lines, sailing craft and power boats if they venture beyond the lines of white marker buoys. Increasing numbers of complaints and threats to swimmers are being received at the Rangers office, especially towards triathlon type swimmers using the pond for training. This location is unsuitable for this style of swimming and is meant more as a recreational facility

  4. If you want peace and quiet, this isn’t the place to go. Chaos getting to and from the car park, the police had to intervene yesterday to assist.

Very busy on the beach, and with such a diverse crowd of people it was fun playing games like “can you tell what language that is” and “who’s got the biggest tattoo”.

  5. Great for children. Nice and warm at the edges, shallow and with sand. We went to the furthest beach . The water was very shallow and my daughter loved it but I didn’t get much of a swim. I hope the water at the other beach is a little bit deeper but it was very busy so we didn’t go there. Lovely to see sailing boats in the pond.

  6. Beautiful lake, sandy beach, water a little silty but otherwise fine and pretty warm on a sunny day. However designated swimming areas are quite small and shared with others :o)

  7. Great place to swim with kids, but not the place to go if you’re looking for a peaceful spot! Our 3 year old son loved it here, the sandy beach area and the shallow, warm water was a perfect spot to spend an afternoon!
