  1. fantastic spot, kids loved going through the tunnel to emerge by the deep blue pool, very cold but its not a long walk so the children carried their wet suits with them. Happy times.

5 stars don’t cut it. this place is immense, even on a busy day like we had, with about 3 large families enjoying summer, we felt sick all the way on the walk in, thinking it would be rubbish and overcrowded but its such an amazing place you don’t even care sharing it.

  5. Absolutely perfect swim. Water cold as you would expect but beautiful. There is a shelved section at one end which made it really and safe to get in. The quarry was busy, but not that many people swimming. Some people were diving off a rock which looked pretty safe as it is clearly very deep. The quarry is long enough to do lengths which was great. Do beware of the cold though, I felt fine while I was swimming but when I got out I felt very cold and didn’t warm up for ages – make sure you have some warm clothes with you and if possible a flask of hot tea. On the other hand there was a family who got out and sat around in their trunks etc so I think I just feel the cold!

  7. Absolutely awesome swim. The one that as soon as you get out from the water you have to jump back – and you do. Water cold, but not such that one cannot breathe. Limited places where one can spread the towel (most of the ground is rocky). There is one rock by the entrance I called a “lizard rock”, large and flat where some people were basking in the sun (just like lizards do). Not much litter around, just small bits of litter on the ground, nothing in the water. However, one dog owner managed to leave behind a bag full of “deposits”. Quarry got quite busy at times, but majority of visitors were “just passing”. Possibly because they came unprepared, not believing that one actually can take a plunge. Got the directions from a nice lady at the Fairbourne train cafe, which suplemented those given in the book. Lovely place, it will be a shame if gets swamped by litter – hopefully it won’t.

Absolutely my favourite wild swim so far! Scarily deep and cold, little fishes swimming past. A hidden gem – feels so secret and dramatic. Not for the faint hearted – good for diving!
