Wild Swimming in
Central & Eastern England
The journey starts
with the hill pools of the Malverns and the rivers of the Welsh
Marches: the Wye, Teme and Lugg. In the east the alluvial soils provide
warmer swims along Grantchester Meadows, the Suffolk Stour and the
Norfolk Broads. Cheshire and Derbyshire provide rare meres, chalk dales
and the mermaids' pools of the Peak District.
Click to see a coverage map
of the swims included in the Wales section
of the Wild Swimming book. You can find details of further places on the google
wild swimming map
at the bottom of this page. Also scroll down for highlights
and a photo slideshow
of the region (click it to open fullsceen).
Our favourite places
and top highlights include:
- Bait
crayfish by the ruins of an old hall in the clear waters of the
Cotswold’s Windrush
- Paddle
with dinosaurs on the Evenlode, the location of the first ever Jurassic
fossil
- A giant
amphitheatre of a quarry filled with famously pure Malvern spring
water. Admire tectonic faults from over 500 million years ago
