An area of nine glacial meres. Colemere is remote, beautiful and quiet with a shore path and small sailing club. Sometimes blue’green algae is reported. You are not officially allowed to swim here. Be discreet.
NOTE: a Reserves Manager for Shropshire Council and Colemere Countryside Site recently notified us: this is a Site of Special Scientific Interest primarily for its rare and sensitive plant community. It is the only location in England for the Least Water Lily. While there is occasional ‘wild swimming’ at Ellesmere on an organised basis, by a local wild swimming community, swimming is not allowed at Colemere due to the potential damage to the plant community, particularly when people are entering and exiting the water. There was a recent incident where a swimmer became abusive on being told swimming was not allowed.

being a 64 year old lady who loves to swim – I couldn`t agree more Rob. 🙂

Sneaked a dip yesterday – being discrete. Makes you think how much more some other countries would make of facilities like this. There’s too much potential here to waste on old ladies having a cup of tea and admiring the view.
