Annual chance to swim across the largest natural body of water in Wales in aid of Diabetes UK Cymru. Entry is free, but each swimmer is expected to raise £150+ in sponsorship. Famously deep and clear, Lake Bala abounds in legend and mystery. It has links to Arthurian legend and the Welsh princes and even has its own monster myth – ‘Tegi’ is said to be seen swimming in its depths on moonlit nights. The course is the width of the lake (known as Llyn Tegid in Welsh) spanning one mile. This is the third year of the swim challenge which is rapidly becoming a magnet for free swimmers and hardy types who like their swims set in some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK.
